Bluetooth is not Showing on Windows 10 – Bluetooth is not Working in Windows

It is a common issue faced by Windows OS users, especially, Windows 8.1 & Windows 10 users that the Bluetooth in the PC disappears from the Settings or fluctuates in the task pane. The issue has some known reasons, for instance, it usually takes place because of the issue in Bluetooth drivers or the problem in its Bluetooth hardware, or the PC itself. Also, sometimes Bluetooth doesn’t work and disappears due to internal applications conflict. Further, some Windows 10 users face the issue of Bluetooth not working properly despite its availability in the Settings and the task pane, and they are unable to connect it with an Audio device or unable to send/receive the file.

So, before you do any needful troubleshooting, make sure your PC has the Bluetooth device. In the simplest way, you can confirm it by asking from the seller or/and through the specification booklet. Otherwise, try the following steps to get to know that the Bluetooth device is available on your PC and what are the needed steps you must take to make it ready for work.

Bluetooth Service Check

Sometimes, Bluetooth disappears from the Settings because of disabled service, which means Bluetooth service isn’t active by default, and it is set to Manual. So, in this case, before using of Bluetooth device, a user must have to enable it manually and set it to Automatic mode for the future.

Steps to set the Bluetooth service on Automatic mode:

Step 1: Go to the Services menu. 

You can go there directly through the Run application, to do this, launch it by pressing Windows + R then type services.msc in the dialogue box and click on OK.
You can also navigate to the Services by this way: Right-click on This PC, tap on Manage, find the Services and Applications from the left sidebar in the newly opened window, then select Services.

Step 2: In Services, find Bluetooth Support Service, and open it.

Step 3: Now, change Manual to Automatic in the Startup type.

Step 4: Click on the Start from below the Service status and tap OK.

Now, you can check your Bluetooth in the Devices, and hopefully, the Bluetooth is available now.

How to Enable Bluetooth Device

If you are facing the issue that Bluetooth is not showing in the Settings or the Bluetooth is not working properly, make sure your Bluetooth device is enabled or switched on.

In some laptops, the user can make sure with the indicator for Bluetooth, if your device has the same facility and it is not blinking, you need to enable it with the buttons on your laptop. A Bluetooth enabling button might be separate at any corner of your laptop or may need to perform the task with the colored Fn key. Otherwise, you can google this function by entering your laptop model, or you may also find it in the guidebook of your laptop.

Once you enable Bluetooth in your computer, try to use whether it works now, if Bluetooth is still missing in the Settings, or Bluetooth is not working properly, check out the following methods.

Update Bluetooth Drivers

If your Bluetooth is missing in the Settings or your Bluetooth is not working properly, try to update the Bluetooth drivers on your computer.

Steps to update Bluetooth drivers in the computer:

Step 1: Go to the Device Manager menu.

You can go there directly through the Run application. To do this, launch it by pressing Windows + R then type devmgmt.msc in the dialogue box and click on OK.
You can also navigate to the Device Manager through this way: Right-click on This PC, tap on Manage, find the Device Manager from the left sidebar in the newly opened window, then click on it.

Step 2: Following Step 1, you can see the Bluetooth in the list. Right-click on Bluetooth and tap Update driver.

Step 3: Once you do Step 2, a popup will appear. Now select Scan automatically for drivers.

Your PC will search to update your Bluetooth drivers and will update automatically in a while. If it gets failed to do so instead, then you will be prompted to proceed with Windows Update by clicking on Search for updated drivers on Windows Update.

You can also check out Browse my computer for drivers if you would like to update drivers manually. To choose this option, you must have pre-downloaded Bluetooth drivers pack from the manufacturer’s site compatible with your PC (this way is not recommended).

Step 4: Once the process is completed and Bluetooth drivers are updated successfully, Reboot your computer.

Step 5: Now go to Devices and check if your Bluetooth is showing there and try to use it.

If the Update driver method doesn’t work and you are still facing the same issue that Bluetooth is not showing in the setting or Bluetooth is not working properly, then try the next method to fix the issue that Bluetooth is missing in the Settings.

Drivers Installation

If your Bluetooth is missing in the Settings or your Bluetooth is not working properly, try to reinstall the Bluetooth drivers on your computer.

Steps to reinstall Bluetooth drivers in the PC:

Step 1: Go to the Device Manager menu. 

To go to the Device Manager, follow the aforementioned steps under the Update Bluetooth Drivers section.

Step 2: Following Step 1, you can see the Bluetooth in the list. Right-click on Bluetooth and tap Uninstall.

Step 3: Once you complete Step 2, click on View from the top menu bar, and tick the Show Hidden Devices.

Step 4: Now, click on Action from the top menu bar, and select Scan for hardware changes

Once you perform step 4, your PC will start the process to scan the available hardware and in a while, your Bluetooth device will appear in the list.

Step 5: Expand the Bluetooth to check whether the driver was successfully installed or not.

Step 6: Now, Reboot your computer

Step 7: Go to the Devices in the Settings and make sure that the issue - Bluetooth is not showing in the Settings or the Bluetooth is not working properly - has now been fixed.

Run the Bluetooth Troubleshooter

Another method is to run the Bluetooth troubleshooter. In simple terms, troubleshooters help find the issue in a computer and try to solve it automatically or asks the user to do the needful to fix the occurred problem. If you are facing the issue of Bluetooth is missing in the Settings or Bluetooth is not showing, try to use the Bluetooth troubleshooter.

Steps to use the Bluetooth Troubleshooter:

Step 1: Press the Windows key, and type "Find and fix problems with Bluetooth devices".

Step 2: Now click Enter.

Step 3: Click on the Next in the popup window.

Step 4: Now the troubleshooter is detecting the problem. Once it gets completed, check if it has fixed the issue, otherwise, follow the instructions given there if the Bluetooth troubleshooter is failed to fix repair the problem itself.

Step 5: Now, tap the Close the troubleshooter.

All done, your Bluetooth has been fixed ✅
